Mūsā b. Jaʿfar (a) (Arabic: موسی بن جعفر) (b. / – d. /) titled as al-Kāẓim (الکاظم) and Bāb al-Ḥawāʾij (باب الحوائج) was the seventh Imam of Shi'a, born in Abwa' (a village between Mecca and Medina). Bani Abbas

As mentioned in the previous chapter, the Abbasids followed a path similar to the Ummayids or even worse. The very people who played a major role in overthrowing the Bani Umayyah and fought in support of the Bani Abbas were regretting their decision.

The new caliphs began oppressing the divine leaders of Islam (the Holy Imams (a.s.))
WITH greater intensity. During his life time, Imam Kazim (a.s.) witnessed the reign of four caliphs namely Mansoor, Mohammad Mahdi, Moosa al-Hadi and Haroon Rashid. He faced a lot of suffering because of them and passed a large part of his life in the prisons of Muhammad Mahdi. Moreover, he remained in the prisons of Basra and Baghdad on the orders of Haroon Rashid, the powerful and pleasure seeking Abbasid caliph. Nonetheless, during the 35 years of his Imamat, Imam (a.s.) was under severe control and watch of government.

The matter which increased the jealousy of the Abbasid caliphs, particularly Haroon towards Imam (a.s.)

Imam Kazim

The life of Imam Kazim was full of oppression, calamities, imprisonments, and life threats, which he endured from multiple Abbasid caliphs. With the unprecedented oppressive regime of the Abbasid government dominating the society, the Imam had a critical role to lead the Shia community, guide them in their religious beliefs, and save them from division. During the Imam’s life, he manifested the true meaning of his title, ‘Kazim’, the one who controls his anger. The Imam remained patient despite all of the calamities he was inflicted with by the government and the ignorant people. He was blessed by God with a special status known by the people of Iraq as ‘Bab al-Hawaij Ilallah’, which means ‘the door of fulfillment of requests from God’.

2. Political Circumstance of His Imamate

Musa al-Kazim (a.s.) became the Imam at the age of twenty through Divine Command and the decree of his forefathers. His imamate, however, began under a very difficult political atmosphere.

The first ten years coincided with Mansur who had given orders to his governor in Medina to behead the heir of Imam Ja‘far as-Sādiq (a.s.). His plot failed because Imam as-Sādiq, predicting this move of Mansur, had written the last will in a way that confused the enemies but guided the seekers of truth to his rightful successor.

The Imam had written five names: the names of the caliph and his governor in Medina were just to confuse the enemy. It was obvious that Hamidah, being a woman, cannot be an i
