अपनी रचनाओं में मौलिक भाषाई प्रयोगों के लिए चर्चित वरिष्ठ साहित्यकार कृष्ण बलदेव वैद का अमेरिका के न्यूयॉर्क में गुरुवार को निधन हो गया. हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय से पीएचडी करने वाले वैद आधुनिक गद्य साहित्य के महत्वपूर्ण लेखकों में शुमार थे.
हिन्दी के आधुनिक गद्य-साहित्य में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण लेखकों में गिने जाने वाले कृष्ण बलदेव वैद का निधन हो गया. 27 जुलाई, पंजाब के दिंगा में जन्मे वैद ने अंग्रेजी से स्नातकोत्तर और हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय से पीएचडी की और अपनी लेखनी से कई पीढ़ियों को प्रभावित किया .
कृष्ण बलदेव वैद की लेखनी में मनुष्य जीवन के नाटकीय संदर्भों की गहरी पहचान है. वैद को साहित्य अकादमी अवॉर्ड से नवाजा गया था. अपनी रचनाओं में उन्होंने सदा नए से नए और मौलिक भाषाई प्रयोग किये हैं जो पाठक को &#;चमत्कृत&#; करने के अलावा हिन्दी के आधुनिक-लेखन में एक खास शैली के मौलिक-आविष्कार की दृष्टि से विशेष अर्थपूर्ण हैं.

The translations of Krishna BaldevVaid&#;s two autobiographical novels were so different to each other that I read the Hindi versions to see whether the difference was in the originals. Till then, I had not read the original of a translated work I had to review on the principle that a translation is meant for a target audience and I tried to read it like an ideal target reader. Reading these novels in Hindi, however, taught me how much a translator, even if the translator is the author himself, can alter a novel. The Hindi title of Steps in Darkness is Uska Bachpan. Editorial: Loss of Krishna Baldev Vaid marks the end of one of the most vibrant eras of Hindi literature
Ten novels, 15 story collections, six books of personal journals, seven plays and a large number of translations from Hindi to English and vice versa. His oeuvre is staggering, as is his artistic achievement. Some writers hit a wonderful chord in the beginning and play the same familiar note through their lives. Vaid always stepped into uncharted zones, sought a new form with almost every novel.
His first novel, Uska Bachpan (Steps Into Darkness, ), was a classic but Vaid did not repeat its realist narrative and became among the most experimental writers of 20th century India. Guzara Hua Jamana (The Broken Mirror, ) is about Partition trauma, Doosra Na Koi (No Other, ) is the monologue of an old writer dying alone in a crumbling home. In Kala Kolaj and Maya Lok he shattered the boundaries of fiction and embraced what is called the anti-novel. Add to this his seminal work of literary criticism, Technique in the Tales of Henry James, which he published in his 30s.
