Her family was totally against her modeling and acting career and her father opposed her when she decided to build a career in the showbiz industry. It was her mother who encouraged her and thus she started her modeling career after divorcing her husband Captain Karan Singh Gill.

Mallika Sherawat, an Indian actress and model, is known for her boldness and is considered one of the leading Indian sex symbols. She was born in the Rohtak district of Haryana. Initially named Rima Lamba, she later changed her name to Mallika Sherawat to avoid being confused with other Rimas in the Indian film industry. The name Mallika allowed her to feel like a goddess, while the surname Sherawat was taken in honor of her mother. Coming from a fairly orthodox family, Mallika did not receive much support from her relatives in her career choice. However, she had enough determination to pursue her chosen path. Mallika even managed to defy her father's demands and went to Mumbai to make her dream come true.
