Biography of Courtney Love
Courtney Love is an American rock singer, poet, and musician, founder of the female punk band Hole, and its guitarist and vocalist. She is the widow of Kurt Cobain, the leader of the band Nirvana. Her platinum album "Live Through This" was released a week after her husband's death. She is also known as an actress. She won awards for "Best Supporting Actress" and "Most Promising Actress" for her role as Althea Flint in Milos Forman's notable biographical film "The People vs. Larry Flynt."Childhood and Adolescence
Courtney Michelle Harrison was born in the summer of to Hank Harrison and Linda Carroll, in the heart of hippie culture—San Francisco. Her father worked as a technician for the band Grateful Dead (young Courtney is pictured on the cover of their debut album "Aoxomoxoa," bottom row, right), and her mother became a psychotherapist. Their home parties always gathered a variety of people who indulged in alcohol and drugs. Later, it turned out that Courtney's maternal grandmother was writer Paula Fox, and Linda always tried to find out if her father was the famous actorCourtney Love Autobiography
Alternatively criticized and vilified, embraced and idolized, Courtney Love has been polarizing opinion from the moment she stormed her way onto the music scene over twenty years ago. Yet everything we know about her has come from the media or her music; she has never before shared the whole story of her life.
From her rocky relationship with her hippy parents and her days spent stripping to make ends meet to the truth behind her drug abuse and recovery, this is a riveting story, too crazy not to be true. Beginning in the San Francisco counter-culture, maturing within the world of punk and grunge in the 80s and 90s, the book reveals an artist at the epicentre of alternative culture. Nothing is off limits, not her relationship with Billy Corgan and Trent Reznor, nor her engagement to Ed Norton, and for the first time her marriage to Kurt Cobain will be revealed as the tragic romance it really was.
While she doesn't shy away from tales of excess, Courtney also goes deeper, offering unique insights into the modern rock culture she helped shape, creating an unforgettable portrait of an outspoken, creatively dangerous, undeniably entertaining
One of the best ways to get into a new (old) band or musician is to find their memoirs and biographies. Immerse yourself in the creation of these gifted humans, stare googly-eyed at the photos printed on glossy pages in the middle of the book, and then jam out to their music. It’s all a win.
At least, that’s how I ended up obsessed with Guns N’ Roses. And The Doors. And Motley Crue. And Aerosmith. And, in the future, many more that I’m holding on to for just the right moment.
Here are musician memoirs and biographies, sorted by the music’s genre (loosely defined), to get you rockin’ and rollin’ and movin’ and groovin’.
