Titre de l’oeuvre :
A l'origine, l'artiste avait intitulé son oeuvre «Test the best» («Testez le meilleur»). Il s'agissait de la reprise d'un slogan publicitaire pour une marque de cigarettes «Test the west»
(« Testez l'Ouest »).
« Test the west », « Test the best », l'artiste proclamait ainsi que le meilleur était à l'ouest. Lors de la rénovation en pour les 20 ans de la chute du mur de Berlin, le titre de l’oeuvre a été changé en « Test the rest » ( « Testez le repos »), comme pour symboliser un épisode terminé de l'histoire.
L'artiste n'insiste donc plus sur la fracture entre l’Allemagne de l'ouest et de l'est car 20 ans se
sont écoulés depuis la chute du Mur, mais elle invite maintenant à tester autre chose, la paix.
Technique de l’oeuvre : l’oeuvre de l’artiste mesure environ 5m de long sur 2,5m de hauteur. Elle a été réalisée au pinceau et à la bombe sur béton.

Elle s’inspire du mouvement hyperréaliste qui est un style artistique qui s’appuie sur l’imitation des photographies pour la peinture. On peut la rapprocher aussi au street art, courant artistique encore présent qui investit le territ

Birgit Kinder wurde in Elgersburg (DDR) geboren. Mit 21 Jahren ging sie nach Ost-Berlin, um dort zu arbeiten und sich nebenberuflich zur Künstlerin zu qualifizieren. Seit ist sie freischaffende Künstlerin und arbeitet als erfolgreiche Wandmalerin. Ihr Mauerbild „Test the Rest“, in dem ein „Trabi“ die Mauer durchbricht, ist weltweit bekannt.

A distanza di 31 anni da quando il murales “Test the best” fu dipinto per la prima volta su una sezione del frammento originario del Muro di Berlino, l’opera dell’artista tedesca Birgit Kinder continua ad attirare Berlinesi e turisti. Insieme al famoso bacio tra fra Honecker e Brežnev dipinto dell’artista russo Dmitri Vladimirovich Vrubel, la Trabant rimane una delle immagini più iconiche della East Side Gallery (ESG), che con i suoi 1,3 km di tracciato ricoperti da circa murales è considerata la più estesa galleria d’arte a cielo aperto del mondo.
